On the graduate training programme every day is different, fun and challenging in it's own way. So much so, I can confidently say I always looked forward to Mondays as much as I looked forward to Fridays!

For me, the graduate training programme provided the perfect introduction to working in a commercial setting. It was an immersive, dynamic and fun experience and all the skills I learnt carry through to my role with DJB today.

Reporting directly to the CEO, I was regularly enlightened with anecdotes, personal experiences and words of wisdom. These regular talks were insighful and having such a relationship this early on is rare.

Sarah Galley, Business Manager

I studied Land Economy at Cambridge University, graduating with a 2:1 in 2017. My course gave me a broad understanding of commercial real estate, as well as the legal side, and certainly piqued my interest in the industry. However, I knew that from my background at A-Level in economics and mathematics that I wanted to work in a business setting.

I was looking for an opportunity which married together my degree in the commercial property and legal industries, with my interest in commerce. DJB offered exactly that.

I joined DJB shortly after graduating, starting work on the Graduate Trainee Programme. I was quickly given access to the “inner-workings” of DJB, learning directly from the firm’s CEO and wider leadership team. I was able to learn quickly, both through absorption and through being given responsibility straightaway for firmwide projects.

My projects were always varied – from implementing new systems and re-engineering processes, to copy-writing and event management, to application development and leading compliance audits.

The skills and insight I gained from these projects have provided a solid foundation for my current role as a Business Manager.

BUILDING THE FIRM'S FUTURE

I graduated in 2018 with a 1st class BA Hons in English Literature from Warwick University and joined DJB shortly afterwards. I knew I wanted to gain commercial experience quickly, aware of the limitations of academic success alone in the “real world”. DJB gave me that opportunity.

I was given responsibility straight away, getting involved at a high-level in projects and strategy meetings. My degree gave me a natural penchant for marketing and communications, and I worked directly with our Chief Executive and other Marketing Executives to develop an understanding of the firm’s marketing. I also had numerous opportunities to develop in project management and problem solving, working on operational efficiencies, new system implementation, database development and more. My on-the-job learning was supplemented by a dedicated Leadership Development Programme, which taught me invaluable business skills.

What I didn’t expect is how much I’d enjoy being part of DJB and that I’d still be building my career here many years on. In my role now as Business Manager, it is a pleasure to see the firm go from strength-to-strength and make the most of all the new opportunities and experiences that come with our growth.

I joined DJB in June 2021 having graduated with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from Bath University.

I chose DJB as I felt very welcomed and immediately respected from the moment I sent my application. Compared to many other job applications, the interviews I had with my team and the CEO felt personal and genuine. I also appreciated the prompt responses and straightforwardness, as for Grad roles these tend to be long and arduous processes.

I was given a lot of responsibility from the beginning, allowing me to highlight and develop my strengths but also make mistakes to learn from. With such responsibility, I felt my teamwork, confidence and leadership skills grow very quickly, as well as my time management and organisation to allow me to keep everything ticking along.

Reporting directly to the CEO, I was regularly enlightened with anecdotes, personal experiences and words of wisdom. These regular talks were insighful and having such a relationship this early on is rare. Work socials and team activities were regularly held and encouraged. I felt welcomed by all teams and didn't feel afraid to approach any individual (of any level of seniority) for help.

I continue to work alongside the projects team now, supporting them in ongoing projects, maintenance and updates of the products launched, and efforts to automate and increase efficiences of the various processes across the company.
