Paul has over 20 years’ experience as a commercial property solicitor. He is able to provide advice on the full spectrum of commercial property matters including disposals, acquisitions, option agreements, overage and clawback, voluntary registration schemes, unregistered titles, wayleaves and easements, as well as Landlord & Tenant matters including negotiation of new leases, lease renewals, dilapidations, lease reports, extensions, agreements and surrenders as well as licences to assign, alter, underlet and for occupation.


Work Highlights


  • As Head of Commercial Property, Paul carried out and supervised a mixed caseload including sales, purchases, landlord & tenant matters, property finance as well as corporate support.


  • Advised Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council on major capital programmes (including Building Schools for the Future, Primary Capital and academy conversions), town centre and out-of-town redevelopment schemes (such as Ashton-under-Lyne and bypass projects), and the sale of non-core assets to meet capital programme timetables. Work included drafting bespoke precedents across sectors (retail, leisure, industrial, greenbelt/agricultural, office and markets), carrying out acquisitions and disposals of freehold and leasehold properties, and dealing with ancillary leasehold matters (licences, change of use, assignments and sublettings). In addition to transactional work, provided strategic advice on central policy, supported governance and recruitment into key roles, and worked closely with other Council teams and government agencies to deliver best value under tight funding deadlines and complex circumstances.
