'In this crucial last Budget before the general election the Chancellor has, as expected, prioritised tax cuts over other more long-term measures to stimulate growth and major issues such as the housing crisis, the UK’s broken planning system, and the fiscal challenge local governments are facing didn’t get much attention….New controls which will require people wanting to turn their home into a short-term let to seek planning permission, and stamp duty relief for people who purchase more than one dwelling in a single transaction (known as Multiple Dwellings Relief) maybe be welcomed by some. However, these measures will only scratch the surface of the housing deficit and are very unlikely to make a significant impact on the country’s housing challenge.'
