Government Responds to Select Committee's Call to Reform Unfair Shared Ownership Practices

PLANNING UPDATE

The Government has responded to Select Committee recommendations to improve unfair practices in shared ownership.

Planning specialists, Chrisa Tsompani and Stephanie Hall explain:

Last month the House of Lords Committee report concluded that shared ownership schemes are failing to deliver an affordable route to home ownership.

The Government forced through the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 before Parliament was prorogued but importantly did not cap ground rent or bring in protection for homeowners paying service charges. Other recommendations will need to wait until after the Elections.

Chrisa Tsompani is a Planning Partner at Davitt Jones Bould. She is highly experienced in complex planning and environmental issues, having advised on planning and highway agreements, Biodiversity Net Gain, development control, enforcement, planning policy, s106 and s111 agreements as well as compulsory purchase orders to name a few.
