UK’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for 2030 (NBSAP)

Updated: Jan 13

Today, the UK Governments (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) released the UK’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for 2030 (NBSAP).

Our Head of ESG, Christopher Kerr, comments: “This is a welcome first step but the NBSAP itself lacks the detail needed to give confidence that the UK will make sufficient strides to reverse its current situation – being one of the most nature depleted countries in the world – by 2030. It is great to see that the respective Governments have a clear intention to meet the targets set out in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) but unless targets, as admirable as they are, are turned into legislation and then supported by a detailed strategy for achieving them, we risk seeing momentum slip as other priorities arise. It is also important that the spending review and Spring Statement ensure that the funding required to achieve the targets is delivered. The time to do this is now.”
